Analyze: Coach's Eye

Coach's Eye is a great tool for Physical education teachers to use
This picture shows how a teacher
can analyze the proper volley ball form
for students to learn how to assess and perform the proper technique to certain sporting, or lifting skills. This application works as a second instructor by allowing students to record other students in motion in order to break down each aspect to allow peer assessments on learning how to perform different skills.

This picture shows a teacher breaking
down the proper techniques for a dead lift.
There are a few different price options for this application. There is an option to get this app for $4.99 with just minimal tools used to break down videos.  There also is a Coach's Eye pro plan, where teachers can buy this application for $5.00 a month billed annually which includes more software ability and other incentives.  The last option is the Coach's Eye VIP plan which is $10.00 a month billed annually with more upgrades.

I feel this application would be beneficial in the physical education classroom because it can allow the teachers to now bring the class together and be able to break down what they are teaching in order for students to have a better visual and understanding to how to fix the problems they are having.
I would rate this application a 4 out of 5 stars because it is a great idea and is a great visual for students who need things to be broken down in order to learn something. It is fairly priced and I think can be affordable of the teachers to buy or the school to provide.

Get Moving: Workout In a Bag- For Kids

Workout in a bag

Workout in a bag- for kids, is an app designed for Physical Education teachers to help elementary aged students to participate in fitness related activities in a fun exciting environment.  It allows students to pick a bag which contains certain workouts as well as a "workout buddy" to come along with you.  As students complete "bags" containing the workouts they are rewarded with gold coins which are used to unlock certain badges as well as new cool workout buddy characters.

For $2.99 I think this application is an awesome idea to help get kids at the elementary level to learn to love fitness at a young age.  I feel it can be a step forward to get kids to get up and be more active not only in phys. ed. class, but to also continue the fun at home as well.  Teachers won't even have to use tablets or iPads provided by the school because if they have there own smart phone they can purchase the application right on their phones and use a projector so the kids can line up in the gym and watch the workout on the big screen together.
This picture shows what
exercise to perform.

-Starts at a beginner level and lets kids progress as they become stronger.

History of Technology in Physical Education

For my content area: Physical Education, I have chosen the Nintendo Wii as one of the most influential technologies in this subject area today.  We all know Wii is a more recent technology that has been introduced in the early 2000's; it has been the most popular technologies to use among physical education teachers today having fun interactive games to keep kids active in a fun safe environment.

Pew Survey Results: Teachers' Technology Use

After reading this article there are many things that stand out, but to me I feel like I am not to surprised with the statistics found concerning technology use in and out of the classrooms.  The mentioned insert on disparity divides in particular stands out to me because I have seen this issue first hand.  I was fortunate to be a paraprofessional at my former high school (Hawthorne High School) and this issue was eminent. This goes hand in and with the results of 79% of information being accessed online and 73% of the information to be submitted because I have seen kids complain and fail assignments due to the lack of technology they have at home.
From my experiences and knowledge working at a district that is so diverse we have both ends of the spectrum.  They have minimal technology resources available to them, which fits in to the statistical data collected by Pew Survey.  Compared to wealthier districts where I have a few friends who are professional educators they are given almost anything they need which is very unfortunate to the poorer districts because it is putting more of a restriction on learning. The ability to have all this technology plays a big role in a students success I believe because they are being offered more ways to learn and more ways to find data and educate themselves.
As a future educator I feel I would fall under the 64 percentile of teachers under the age of 35 saying they are "very confident" when it comes to using new technologies.  At only 24 I am more fortunate than most "older teachers" because I have been able to grow up in the times technology was rising, and I have continued to educate and learn how to use the major technological resources to stay up to date.  It gives me a greater advantage to be able to communicate and relate to the students when it comes to technology use.

Reflection on Influential Technologies

Reflection on Influential Technologies

Almost everyone can/does believe that technology has made life much easier and more comfortable and has enabled us to perform tasks that we cannot do otherwise. "Technology is just so convenient regardless of what medium you are using it for."(Learning to Change, Changing to Learn: Student Voices') (0:13). Technology is at the tip of our hands everywhere we go whether we think so or not.  We use technology on an everyday basis and to think about what life would be without it in this day and age is almost impossible. My top three technologies that have impacted my life on an everyday basis is my smart phone, Mac book, and Global positioning system (GPS).

Without my iPhone an entire portion of my life would be lost. Like one student said in the 'Learning to Change, Changing to Learn: Student Voices' video "My phone is almost like my third hand"(0:36), this is exactly how myself and I am sure most of us feel most of the time. At the tip of my hands my iPhone gives me access to so many important functions I need to carry out everyday tasks. Text messages makes communication between my peers, friends, and clients easy and quick. It provides me with my music to help me escape reality, my camera to capture candid moments, emails so I don't miss what is going on at school or in my professional life, and applications to keep up to date on everyday news, sports, podcasts to listen to motivational learning and life strategies, and even helping me keep track of my clients and payments. My iPhone also gives me quick access to the Internet if I ever need to use it to read or research something new I need to learn.

In today's society as one student said in the video "a lap top is a bare necessity."  Without our laptop many things could not be possible.  It is the open window to accessing infinite amount of information. Not only has it helped me learn it has also made my last 5 years of undergrad and now my first year of graduate school easier and more efficient.  It is convenient enough to throw in my backpack and take with me to class in order to take notes in class.  It has also been a tool used for Skype interviews I have had in the past and also to get into this graduate program. In the video students have used lap tops to learn how to read, write, and learn a new language which is just a few of the laptops beneficial uses we are lucky enough to be a part of today.

My GPS system is my third most influential piece of technology in my life today.  Surprisingly this was not mentioned in the video, because it may not be something we use in the classroom, but it is something we use that is incredibly important.  Without this device I would be one lost human being. I am someone who is to say the least, awful with directions, but this beautiful creation makes my life easier to get to point a, to point b on time with out worrying if I am going to get lost. Although, it may take the longer route at times it has never let me down. The GPS also has helped me to learn how to get to different places without relying on it eventually if I go there enough times.

In conclusion, technology will continue to expand and be part of our everyday uses.  We live in a time where it is widely accepted and a necessity whether you are a student or a professional. We rely on technology everyday from the time we wake up to the time we go to sleep.  There are great amount of similarities that I use technology for in comparison to the students in the video.  We all use our cell phones to communicate effectively, capture moments, listen to music, applications, as well as multiple handfuls of other useful information and functions.  Lap tops are not only used to read, write and learn a new language, but also gives us the ability to create.  Create movies, clips, music, and art, as well as give us access to information we never thought we can find.  From where we live at home to the classroom technology is helping us learn and become better students when used efficiently.
