Final Project- Technology Integration Plan

The goal of this lesson is to increase children's awareness on how to live a healthy lifestyle.

My Technology Integration Plan focuses on our health education.  In this lesson student's will learn what it takes to live a healthy lifestyle.  My target audience is 12th graders because I used the standards for students at this grade level.  By 12th grade students are becoming more independent and  there bodies are changing.  They need to learn what it takes to keep up with a healthy living to take care of their bodies as they go on to there next stage in life. My lesson incorporates different technologies as well as strategies to enhance student learning.

My first row or standard of my matrix deals with determining the relationship of nutrition and physical activity to weight loss, weight gain, and maintenance. What I plan to do is give the students a mini lecture to understanding how nutrition and physical activity work together in order to achieve weight loss or weight gain goals. Here they will learn how certain diets with different types of exercises work together to achieve ones physical goals.  After the lecture I will present a short video that further explains and supports my mini lecture. From there I will engage the class in a class discussion within answering questions and concerns pertaining to the topic. I will also introduce to them the Eat-&move-o-matic application that shows how foods and how they effect the body.

The second standard I will be addressing to my students compares and contrasts the dietary trends and eating habits of adolescents and young adults in the United States and other countries. Similar to my first row I will introduce a video comparing the and contrasting different habits of eating throughout other countries to our country. They will learn that we have one of the highest percentages of obese people compared to other parts of the world and they will learn why and how different nutrition is taken in other parts of the world. After the video I will lecture as they take notes on eating habits of kids there age and explain how nutrition can be taken more seriously through simple approaches. After the lecture I will keep the class open for discussion and show students the healthy eating diagrams and healthy recipes that are easy for there age group to make/eat.

My last standard I will be discussing is to analyze the unique contributions of each nutrient class (fats, carbohydrates, protein, water, vitamins, and minerals) to one’s health. I will give handouts regarding information on each nutrient class and why they are important and the breakdown of how much our body needs of each in order to maintain weight, lose weight, or gain weight. After they complete the reading I will spend a few minutes giving them my input and teaching them how to calculate macronutrients in order to develop a diet/ weight training plan. Once this is done students will be put into groups and allowed to use computers to create a powtoon presentation that touches on what they have learned as well as creating a 1 week diet/workout plan.

Overall this lesson is going to give proper baseline for students to understand the importance of living a healthy life, as well learning the potential negatives if not done so. The use of technology and videos in this lesson will help students be more engaged and the visuals of videos will give the students a better understanding on what the lesson is trying to teach them.

Padlet Unit Plan

For this interactivity I chose to use the topic of "Living a Healthy Lifestyle."  I chose this topic because it has similarities to my interactivity 3 lesson, also it is a big topic in today's youth. It is extremely important for kids to learn the basics of how to be healthy and live that lifestyle because half of our nations kids are becoming obese.

For this lesson it is very important for students to first understand what living a healthy lifestyle means.  From there we go on to talking about nutrition, exercise, and everyday activities that can help lead us to a healthy lifestyle.  For some students who are athletes it may be easier for them to stay active and healthy, but for students who are not athletes this may be difficult to tackle or understand hence why this lesson is very important.  My essential questions and unit goals were developed through my experiences and knowledge of this topic in order to pass it off to learning students.

The technologies I will be using in this class are computers, Eat & Move-O-Matic application, and Powtoon.  I feel these technologies will enhance learning experiences in this class for a few reasons.  The computers will give students a chance to research topics given by myself in relation to exercise and nutrition.  The Eat & Move-O-Matic app will enhance class learning of different foods and how they negatively/positively effect our body.  Powtoon will be used as a fun interactive way for students to create their presentations on a topic they choose from.

Get Moving: FitQuest

FITQUEST
This picture is showing you must jump in order
for the squirrel to safely get over the snake.

FitQuest is a great application for teachers to use in the classroom as well as at home.  FitQuest is a fun way for young students to get up and be active in a way that is fun.  Most kids now-a-days love video games, there iPads, iPhones, so what better way is there to get kids up and moving by incorporating it within the devices they use on a daily basis.   FitQuest is powered by your own natural movements. The concept of the game is to use natural movements like jogging, jumping, and ducking to safely get your character (a squirrel) safely into a tree house.

I can see teachers utilizing this app with students in the classroom all together and even having students download this application on their smart phones and have them complete levels at home for homework in order to make sure some type of exercise is continuing outside the classroom. This application is also free which makes it extremely worth having.

This app deserves a 5/5 due to its affordability and
its purpose of using body movements
to manuever yourself in the actual game
to help kids stay active.

Adapt Content: Eat & Move-O-Matic

This picture shows what how many calories a
california roll has and what activity and how long you
need to do it for to burn it off.

Eat & Move-O-Matic

Eat & Move-O-Matic is a great application for teachers to use inside their health education classroom. This application can be used to educate students more about the foods they eat and how these foods can have negative/positive effect on the body.  This application gives students the ability to calculate calories of the foods they eat and also shows them how much exercise it will take for them to burn those calories off.  This app includes over 80 foods and 35 different exercises. To learn more about this application click HERE.

This application is free of charge and makes it extremely worth teachers and students to have for class and personal use. Teachers can assign homework that consists of students eating certain foods and participating in exercises to help students continue to live a healthy life.  Because this application is free and the content seems to be very helpful I would give this application 5 stars!

Supporting Instruction with Technology

Supporting Instruction with Technology

The lesson plan I chose to use for this interactivity is called "Quests for Better Health."  I chose to go with a lesson plan that is for the Health Education classroom rather than Physical Education because I thought implementing technology within a health class would be a better choice.  I chose this plan because it allows students to use the internet in order to research certain topics.  It gives kids the chance to utilize the computer in order to dig deep and find more information about the topics at hand. I also chose this plan because the students at the end of their research are able to use their creativity in order to create a brochure that shows how we should approach a healthy diet.

This lesson supports the standards of analyzing health data and findings in order to better create a healthier lifestyle for yourself, as well gaining the knowledge to help others. In this lesson plan students are exposed to various teaching strategies.  We have instructional strategies, discussion, research, teacher centered, and student centered.

I feel coggle is a great way to connect ideas that are related with the different standards.  I did find it somewhat difficult to use, but with some trial and error I found my way around it.  I feel that it can be useful in some ways, but it brings a little bit more confusion in my eyes to the standard lesson plan we are supposed to use.

Adapt Content- Health Ed Buddy

HEALTH ED BUDDY APPLICATION

This picture just shows one of the menu
options for the application.
This picture shows the main home screen on the left
and flashcards on the right.

Health Ed Buddy is a great application for Health and Physical Education to use inside the classroom.  This application is used to help enhance awareness and healthy lifestyle choices for all people.  The application provides lesson plans, quizzes, videos, and flash cards to enhance learning in the classroom.  It also gives teachers material to use when lesson planning because they can base a lesson on topics provided in the application to give them more material and ideas for the classroom experience. Get Moving: C-fit Dance

C-FIT DANCE APPLICATION

This picture shows the proper steps in order to perform
the "cha cha"
C-Fit Dance application is a great app that can be used in the physical education classroom in lieu of a nintendo Wii.  If schools don't offer the Wii teachers can purchase this application for $2.99 and use it when they want to integrate "dancing" or "Zumba" in there lesson plans.  This app is said to guarantee to get kids up and moving while introducing several different dance steps.  There are several dance options to pick from ranging from  Hip-Hop, Latin, and West African.  With all these multicultural dance steps it also gives students the ability to explore other cultures.  Each dance routines are broken down by steps to give the students an easier foundation to learn all the moves correctly.
This pictures shows the different options of dances
that can be chosen for the class to learn.
This application seems to have credibility to be successful in a classroom environment.  Like most of my applications I have posted it would work best with a projector in the gym so this way the entire class can be involved and everyone has the ability to see the screen. For only $2.99 you can't go wrong it is inexpensive enough to take a shot at buying it and introducing it to the class!

Rating
4/5 stars due to its ability to be successful in the classroom
but not 5 stars because certain students may not be comfort-
able dancing.
